Longleaf Forest Restoration and Management at Fort Benning, Georgia (Dr. Sharon Hermann and Dr. Craig Guyer)
- Project goals are to:
- Assess forest structure appropriate for gopher tortoises and develop improved management guidelines.
- Assess existing gopher tortoise populations in areas of Fort Benning under development and aid in relocating displaced tortoises.
- Compare forest metrics relevant to forest management appropriate for gopher tortoise habitat (canopy cover and basal area).
- Develop recommendations for forest management to recover and promote gopher tortoise habitat
