Growth & Yield Project 1
Regional Longleaf Pine Growth Study (RLGS) (Dr. John Kush)
-
The project was established in the Gulf States in 1964 by the USDA Forest Service to maintain a database for the development of growth and yield predictions for naturally regenerated, even-aged longleaf pine stands.
- Project objectives are to:
- develop plantation growth and yield models,
- develop growth and mortality models and taper models for natural stands,
- and develop models for pine straw and utility pole production.
-
We have conducted the RLGS 20, 25, 30,35, and 40th - year re-measurements. September 2009 will be the 45th re-measurement year.
- We installed 3 sets of time-replication plots on the Escambia Experimental Forest in Brewton, AL.
- Efforts will include climate data.
- A new site index model soon to be published.
